Introducing the Sanken SAM265M Series 3-phase Intelligent Motor Driver
The SAM265M Series of compact, intelligent 3-phase power modules are designed for brushless motor drives and power inverters. The modules include IGBTs, soft recovery power diodes, driver ICs, a bootstrap diode with limiting resistors, and a temperature detection thermistor in one small package.
High Power
The SAM265M50BS3 featured here includes IGBTs with breakdown voltage (Vce) rated at 650V and output current (Ic) rated at 50A, capable of driving a 3.7kW 3-phase motor.
Less Space
Implemented in a space saving 30-pin package, the SAM256M series offers superior performance in applications where efficiency and precision is crucial. Utilizing DCB (Direct Copper Bonding) the SAM265M offers more than 20% reduction in space while maintaining high performance.
Less Electrical Noise
The specially developed high-speed soft recovery diodes are effective in suppressing switching noise, resulting in low electrical radiation. The smaller package’s power components are mounted close together, further reducing electrical radiation.
Accurate Temperature Detection for Improved Reliability
The SAM265Mxx Series includes a thermistor mounted internally, directly on the power chip substrate, offering very accurate temperature detection and the ability to quickly respond to sudden temperature changes. The thermistor is accurate to within 5ºC of the power switching devices and is monitored by the internal protection circuit, which operates at 10ºC below the power devices. This ensures high reliability and safe shutdown in case of faults or over-temperature operation.
High Efficiency and Less Waste
The SAM265M’s high efficiency, combined with intelligent features such as thermal shutdown, overcurrent protection and undervoltage lockout, ensures long-life operation, due to lower running temperatures and high-reliability safety features.
External current limiting resistors are not required, and far fewer external components are needed as they have been included inside the module. This results in simpler and smaller designs overall.
Industrial and Automotive Qualification
The modules are available with AEC-Q100 and AGC324 approvals.
