The THAT 7200 generates a low-jitter MCLK from a jittery input WCLK or an internal frequency generator. Incorporating patented JetPLL technology it uses a combination of numeric and analog feedback loops to attenuate the source clock's jitter in the band of interest, thus generating an extremely clean output clock optimized for audio applications.
The JetPLL enables high-performance ADCs and DACs to reach their full performance potential. The input WCLK frequency can go as low as 6 Hz. The cleaned output clock frequency is programmable over the range of 6MHz to 50MHz through the I2C/SPI control port. The part is designed to be program-compatible with the registers for the Cirrus CS2000 insofar as pro audio applications are concerned, but provides additional configuration features and performance.
The THAT 7200 delivers base band jitter below 25 ps and wide band jitter below 100 ps. This supports audio signal converters with over 118 dB dynamic range.
The THAT 7200 also provides an auxiliary output that can serve as a phase-aligned frame clock running at a base rate dependent on the WCLK input. This ensures that digital output interfaces can be sample aligned with the source, thus complying with AES11 requirements. Alternatively, the FSOUT may be used to provide a buffered version of the reference clock or the output clock or serve as the PLL's lock indicator.
The THAT 7200 operates in two modes; Compatibility mode which exposes a register set like the CS 2000, and Native JetPLL Mode which presents a more versatile set of features and corresponding register set and a frame sync output.
